Ponce de Leon Inlet with its picturesque 110 year old brick lighthouse, provides ready access to the Atlantic Ocean for those that want to get offshore to sail or fish. With a 50 mile wide continental shelf, the waters off of Southeast Volusia are teaming with numerous varieties of both bottom fish and blue water fish. More than 30 golf courses are located within a thirty minute drive from New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater. Tennis courts abound in Southeast Volusia. Everything from hard courts to clay and grass.

Home of the Atlantic Center for the Arts, New Smyrna has several art shows during the year, including the annual juried Images- A Festival of the Arts. The South Campus of Daytona Beach Community College borders New Smyrna/Edgewater with the Main Daytona Beach campus within twenty- thirty minutes. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institution is located at Daytona Beach International Airport also a short drive. The highly renowned Stetson University in DeLand is about a half hour drive. The University of Central Florida also has a campus in Daytona Beach.
