The New Smyrna Beach
Garden Club is a chapter of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs.
Martha Woods served in the capacity of Chairman,
Garden of the Month Award. Each month, as Martha traveled around
Southeast Volusia County, she always has an eye out for a potential
candidate for garden of month. Each month a home garden, whose owner
does his own gardening, is selected by Martha for the award. She then
notifies the Daytona News Journal and New Smyrna Beach Observer -
scheduling and coordinating a meeting at the selected property with
their reporter - photographer and the home Gardner.

November 2001 Garden of Month
The
Garden of the Month Award for November was presented to Chuck and
Linda Allen, who live at Lake Waterford Estates off Glencoe Road.
The Allen house sits on 1 1/2 acres and is
framed by the natural flora found on the property. Palmettos with oak,
sweet gum, magnolia and palm trees form a ring around the house and a
cleared area in front planted with colorful flowers. The back of the
house, which overlooks the 75-acre lake, is also landscaped with
colorful annuals.
Avid conservationists, the Allens left as
much natural beauty as they could.
